Existing Structures
In many instances, we find ourselves engaged in brownfield or retrofit projects that involve modifying and rehabilitating existing structures. Often, these projects were not originally executed using Building Information Modeling (BIM), relying instead on hand-drawn plans or AutoCAD files. However, it is crucial to avoid reverting to AutoCAD for the new project, especially when the original building was completed in the 1970s or 1980s. Accurately modeling the existing structure is essential for generating demolition drawings and planning the proposed retrofit work. By utilizing available data such as record drawings and documentation of any upgrades made since commissioning, we can effectively recreate the current state of the building. This approach not only enhances precision but also ensures that our modifications are well-informed and structurally sound.
